Field Lacrosse Program Now Offered

The FLA is excited to announce that we will be offering a field lacrosse program this summer following our box lacrosse season.

What is Field Lacrosse

Field Lacrosse is Canada’s original sport and has roots in North American cultures going back 1000 years.
Field Lacrosse brings together the skills used in a variety of sports, for example:
· running of soccer;
· team play of football;
· fast break of basketball; and
· passing, shooting, and contact of hockey.

However, Field Lacrosse is a unique sport that provides fast-paced action combined with physical conditioning and fun!

Anyone can play Field Lacrosse – the big or the small – as the game requires and rewards coordination and agility, not brawn. Games are played without contact at the youth levels.

Field Lacrosse is presently played by both men and women in local clubs and schools. Field Lacrosse was part of regular Olympic competition in the early 1900’s.

Field lacrosse is a fast-paced, exciting and fun game that develops teamwork, conditioning, coordination, confidence and discipline. Originally played by First Nations, Field Lacrosse is today enjoyed by thousands of girls and boys worldwide.  As a growing sport amongst universities and colleges in Canada and the US, field lacrosse offers great opportunities for an advanced level of play and scholarships for those pursuing post-secondary education.  On a global basis, field lacrosse is considered to be the most common style of the game of lacrosse. The sport is already popular in other parts of Canada, in fact, in 2006 Team Canada, brought home Gold in the World Field Lacrosse Championships.

If you are interested in a fresh new outdoor sport to enjoy this summer, we encourage you to register for the fastest growing sport in North America, Canada’s National Summer Sport – Field Lacrosse.

How is Field Lacrosse Played

Field Lacrosse is played on a field with 10 players on the field for each team at the same time. It is a fast paced game that runs 4 quarters. Defensive players use 6 foot long sticks and the goals are 6 feet by 6 feet.

The equipment used for box lacrosse can also be used for field lacrosse, although cleated shoes are recommended.
